How to choose hosting for a WordPress site in India or the UAE

Eight practical steps, from where your visitors are to the total you will really pay over three years. No jargon you don't need.

In short: host close to your visitors, choose how much server work you want to do yourself, compare the 3-year cost rather than the intro price, and check what is not included (email, backups, tax).

1. Start with where your visitors are

The physical distance between your server and your visitors affects how fast the first byte of each page arrives. Check your analytics for visitor locations. Mostly India: pick a host with an Indian data center (Hostinger, Cloudways on DigitalOcean Bangalore, Kinsta Mumbai, DigitalOcean Bangalore). Mostly UAE or Gulf: few mainstream hosts have a UAE location. Kinsta lists Dubai and Riyadh; otherwise choose the nearest region and add a CDN.

2. Decide how much server work you want to do

3. Compare the three-year cost, not the intro price

Shared hosts advertise low monthly prices that need a long prepayment and then renew at a much higher rate. For example, on 21 October 2026 Hostinger India's Premium plan was ₹139/month on a 48-month term (₹6,672 upfront) and renews at ₹449/month; SiteGround StartUp was $2.99/month for 12 months, renewing at $17.99/month. Put the numbers into our true-cost calculator check current price.

4. Size the plan for what the site actually does

5. Check the boring essentials

6. Plan for tax and payment

Indian buyers are typically charged GST, and the UAE's standard VAT rate is 5%. Many hosts bill in US dollars, so your bank may add a foreign-exchange fee. Check whether the displayed price includes tax.

7. Don't forget email and the domain

Bundled domains and mailboxes are often free for the first year only. Cloudways charges for mailboxes as an add-on, and Kinsta doesn't list email hosting in its plans, so you may need a separate email provider. Add these to the "extras per year" box in the calculator.

8. Test before you commit

Use the refund window: Hostinger, Kinsta and SiteGround each advertise a 30-day money-back guarantee, and Cloudways offers a free trial without a card. DigitalOcean's FAQ says it does not offer refunds. During the trial, test your real site with free tools such as PageSpeed Insights and WebPageTest, choosing a test location near your visitors.

Frequently asked questions

Should a UAE business host its website in the UAE?

If most visitors are in the UAE, a server in or near the UAE gives the shortest network path. Of the hosts we compare, Kinsta lists a Dubai data center. If your host has no Gulf location, use a CDN so images, CSS and scripts are served from nearby.

Is shared hosting fine for WordPress?

For a small brochure site or blog, usually yes. For WooCommerce, membership sites or sites with traffic spikes, a managed cloud or managed WordPress plan gives more consistent resources.

Why does my hosting bill jump after the first term?

Most shared hosts advertise an introductory price that only applies to the first prepaid term. After that the plan renews at the regular rate, often 3–6 times higher. Always compare the renewal price.

Do I pay tax on hosting?

Usually. Indian buyers are typically charged GST, and the UAE's standard VAT rate is 5%. Some providers include tax in the displayed price and some add it at checkout, so check before you pay.
